It's time for another round of I DRAW YOUR SHIT, a series of posts where we all create fan art of a specific character or topic. This time, we're not tackling the character(s) of someone in the EAZB family... we're going to do fan art of Janelle Monáe!

Now, I contend that while Monáe is really amazing there's not quite enough cultural zeitgeist, global conversation and imagery yet to feed an entire fanzine like the Gaga-themed PRISON FOR BITCHES. But we're all getting really into her, and getting the urge to draw so she makes a perfect candidate for our latest IDYS!

         

And in summary, here are three initial reasons why I'm into her:

• She is a huge dork (like us!). Monae is creating a concept album with an arch-narrative about androids, dystopia and afro-futurism, and name-checks our favorite speculative writers in interviews: Octavia Butler, Philip K. Dick, Samuel R. Delany
• She won't cop to the gender of her partner, is down with the queer community and happens to also be super hot to boys/girls alike (like an otokoyaku from Takarazuka).
• She is only 24 and just getting started.

ROUND FOUR!  Let's get ready to rummmmble!!!

Time to break out your artsty-fartsy instruments, it's time for another I DRAW YOUR SHIT!, the series of posts where we take turns drawing tributes/homages/sexual re-imaginings of a character from another EAZB crew member's work! In previous rounds we've done:

• Ting & Terng: conjoined twin bullies from Hellen Jo's Jin & Jam #1
• Max Guy: well-meaning goofus superhero from Lamar Abrams' Remake
• Washington Smalls: fanny-packing murderer from Michael DeForge's Cave Adventure

Per tradition, the creator from the the round before picks the next target, and Michael picked GORILLA JOE from Mickey Zacchilli's BULLSHIT FRANK & GORILLA JOE comics! 

Gorilla Joe is a mancreature who balances existential terror, simian punk rock ethos and a strange friendship with a guru bird creature (I LOVE HIM MOST OF ALL). Check out some excellent excerpts the four issues (so far!) of gag comedy gold on Mickey's site here, then go buy an issue or two (or four!)

By now, I hope everyone knows the drill and is pumped for this. We're starting our third round of I DRAW YOUR SHIT!, the series of posts where we take turns drawing tributes/homages/sexual re-imaginings of a character from another EAZB crew member's work!!!! So far we've tackled:

• Ting & Terng: conjoined twin bullies from Hellen Jo's Jin & Jam #1
• Max Guy: well-meaning goofus superhero from Lamar Abrams' Remake

Per tradition, the creator nailed last round gets to pick the next subject, and Lamar picked WASHINGTON SMALLS from Michael DeForge's Cave Adventure comic. Cave Adventure was a short-lived strip on the Top Shelf site, which was really awesome and you can go read the whole thing now. Michael (being insane & overproductive, as ever) also created an entire MIDI album soundtrack for a hypothetical Cave Adventure game!

I DRAW YOUR SHIT: stealing ryan's thunder!!! not simply stealing for stealing's sake, but i was totally stoked on this little game and wanted to give it a kick in the ass, cuz i think ryan's been too busy to do so himself. i just hope ryan wasn't sitting on a draft or anything. regardless, i'm a bullheaded asshole and i hope i'm not being too bold!

anyway hellen's characters happened last time, so she chose lamar's character MAX GUY from his comic REMAKE which is published by adhouse books. everytime i see lamar we hug, even though we've only hung out three times. i think that's nice.

so whatever, after this lamar gets to pick the next character we draw! and so on and so forth, into infinity. attached some pictures... check out his website or find his flickr to get more! post ur drawings in the comments!

Each week we pick a character from a member of the EAZ crew's work (comic, paintings, video games, etc) and then everyone else who wants in draws their own take on the character. Post a link to your drawing in the comments, I'll collect them in a gallery at the end!

Christ, dudes, I'm honored and surprised that so many of you would give enough of a shit to draw Ting & Terng. These all look so good! I wanted to draw one too but I've been struggling to finish a painting that was supposed to be in Germany by Friday. I should just print these out and send them over to the Deutsch.

I just had an idea for a post / group activity for the EAZ crew. This was inspired by the $6 drawing offer i bought from Mickey (did you get yours yet?). Tell me if it is retarded or smart!?
1) Pick a character by somebody in the EAZ crew. For example...

• Max Guy from Lamar's Remake
• Scissor Sniper from Kazimir's Mourning Star
• Bullshit Frank from Mickey's BF & GJ
• Jin & Jam from Hellen's you knowwww
• Manleau from Ted May's Injury
• etc.etc.etc.etc.

2) Then we all draw our own takes on that character! 
3) PROFIT!

IS THIS A GOOD OR BAD IDEA? And if you think we should do it (I am looking for at least 3 yes votes), what/whose character do you wanna body slam lovingly first?
