Weekend Collages: Postcards Pt. 2

Sorting and cleaning our bookshelves a bit today, I came across some old magazines and comics I'd received as gifts from Alice. It'd been a while since I made any new collages, and I'm right in the middle of a fun mail streak-- so I decided to bust out my glue, x-acto and alvin cutting board.

Here's the 4 newest postcards, featuring clippings from an '80s Fangoria and other sources. Extra points for naming the specific movies and/or background YouTube clips!

dang, these are nice. unlike me, you actually do creative things with the magazines you have laying around. the thing about collages is that they seem meditative and relaxing to create. put on some music, sip some chill tea, slice away. and then on the recipient's end, they get this nice artwork they can hang up on the wall. guess this can be said for all media. but you get my drift. keep it up.

Thanks dude! these ones are especially sloppy and thrown together, but I wanted to use up the rest of my card stock from this huge black/grey sheet I got at stem.

You're definitely right about the relaxation factor... aside from the eventual wrist strain from gripping the x-acto too hard, I find it deeply relaxing. also, it's a good excuse to have SOMETHING to drop in the mail :)

does anyone want to be a pen pal?

I'd say yes, but that seems silly, what with living nearby :B

It sounds like a great idea though... artistic postcard correspondence, maybe once or twice a week. It would be a beneficial project. I'm a big fan of endeavors that force people to make art on a regular schedule. Plus this medium seems un-stressful - a good way to experiment.

Have you ever done wintergreen transfers? They work with xeroxes but I've heard that certain types of magazines will transfer with it as well. Turpentine may work better, apparently. If you ever want to play around with transparency and layering, that would be cool to see :]

+ These are great. The ominous stabbing kid is my favorite. And the flowers.

More! :U

Sounds like a plan for this fall when you head back to Providence :)
I actually have 3-4 friendships that are based (or at least, originally started) around periodic art/postcard exchanges.

I actually don't know anything about wintergreen transfers or turpentine-- but I have been reading about it today online. Seems interesting and very tactile! I like adding in new manual processes to the bag of stuff i try and moderately fail at. yay

Thanks for the feedback! next batch will be more collage-y these were done without any xerox :)
